Venom

The dark mirror to Spider-Man, Venom was once the journalist Eddie Brock. His biggest break came when he published the confession of a man claiming to be the serial killer Sin-Eater. Unfortunately, the real Sin-Eater was caught by Spider-Man, and Brock lost his job. Unable to find work, his wife left him.

Contemplating ending his life, he instead turned to God, and began praying alone in an empty church near his home. There, he pleaded to God for vengeance on the man responsible for the depressing turn of events: Spider-Man. Whether or not there was a God to hear his pleas, something else did. The formless mass as dark as the night sky slithered and slid unnoticed from the rafters. Its unknown whether it saw a meal or a kindred spirit in this poor man, but what is known is that both of those beings in that empty church were gone. In their place, a single creature known only as Venom.

Venom is a great character to read depending on how he's written. While Venom isn't the first character to be a dark mirror to Spider-Man, he is the only one who also represents Peter Parker though Eddie Brock. This version of Venom, I wanted to play with the idea that he doesn't want to be a villain. So instead of using his newfound abilities to fight Spider-Man, he instead tries to play the hero and save others. He even makes himself look like Spider-Man with the large eyes and the white spider on his chest to better be able to help others. However the unsettling voice in the back of his head, which sounds eerily like his neglectful father, tries to convince Brock that Spider-Man is the enemy. While Brock is able to resist, whenever Spider-Man gets in close proximity to Venom, the symbiote takes over. His eyes begin to deform and a gaping maw filled with protruding fangs opens on his mouth, and long, sharp protrusions raise over his body.
